Latest Update from Cape Town
Someone recently said, ‘The world’s hunger problem is getting ridiculous. There is more fruit in a rich man’s shampoo than on a poor man’s dinner plate.’
The allure of Table Mountain is without question. From the top you get a fabulous view of the vastness of the Cape Flats. Its inhabitants face enormous challenges.
We provide meals for several communities, particularly in Heideveld where the soccer school is based. Our Feeding Programme is hugely popular and people come from all over the region to join a queue, desperate for a hot meal. I was joined by Ian Langlois and James Pascoe and on one day alone we provided food for 1,000 people. As numbers increase, we have the challenge of seeking additional resources.
Many in Heideveld are jobless and have no income to provide food. Sadly, the government is not able to provide an unemployment support system as in the UK and the Channel Islands. As a result, violence and crime is high as some will go to any length to put food on the table. We are pleased to help these people in practical ways as well as offer hope through the Christian message of reconciliation, peace and forgiveness.
We want to say a big thank you to our existing supporters. Your kindness makes a huge difference to people in the Cape Flats. A £10 monthly standing order provides 30 meals every month. New supporters are very welcome - please contact us for more information.
God bless you
