Gogo Mkhululi Ashley
Living up to his name, always on the go go!
Gogo Mkhululi Ashley lives in a township where 80% of the population use drugs and 80% are unemployed. Violence just happens.
As a young lad he joined GCU Soccer Academy and loved it so much that he went on to play for several years in the charity's senior team. He has a habit of scoring spectacular goals. The academy has played a significant role in his childhood and he's developed skills as he has grasped opportunities presented to him. Gogo is a big sports fan and has coaching qualifications in both soccer and boxing.
His parents separation left a gap in his college fees and his hope of becoming an electrician fell through. So he went back to high school to finish his uncompleted secondary education. He’s also learned leadership skills at the Cape Town Institute for Advancement - an excellent service that the city offers to charities.
His attitude to serving his community is exemplary. For years Gogo helped with feeding programmes and helped introduce street soccer in crime-ridden Khayelitsha.
