The astonishing figure of 80% unemployment in the townships is a blight on the country. However, whilst there are some who might simply be unemployable, there are many thousands of individuals who are very capable, but cannot find opportunities.
Goal50 has a desire to help wherever possible and it is through the food programme that opportunities present themselves because of the sheer numbers that use it. Thousands of people each week.
Local employment agencies have supported this job creation initiative, in particular with effective skills screening. The charity too has played a role in training up individuals with basic skills so that they can become more attractive to prospective employees. There have been situations where people have been referred back to school to finish or improve on their qualifications, with the sole purpose of improving their chances of employment.
