Closer to home

Andrew Thompson has a very real interest in charitable activity as Chair of State Street’s Channel Islands CSP Committee. The company has headline sponsored the Guernsey Community Foundation Awards.

Winner of the ‘Overseas Charity of the Year’ in 2015 was Goal50 and the seed of an idea came to Andrew as he listened to Nigel Pascoe’s acceptance speech. The company’s CSP (Community Support Programme) goals were closely aligned to that of the charity.

And whilst Andrew made a generous cash grant donation from the Channel Islands office, it occured to him that the State Street office in Cape Town could help in a very pratical way in the townships. Remarkably, the Goal50 team were on a regular field trip to the townships just two weeks later and met with Johann Lotter, Chair of the South Africa CSP Committee in his Cape Town office.

This meeting became a stepping stone to many hours of voluntary work by a very willing and able team. The first project was the restoring and decorating of a school LIBRARY. More recently, under the guidance of the professionals Urban Harvest, the team created the most amazing FOOD GARDEN at Welcome Primary School.

So a story that started in Guernsey has travelled all the way to Cape Town. See the team in action in the images below.
