Nigel Pascoe
Goal50 Founder & Chairman

If a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well. That's Nigel's approach to Goal50 since its founding in 2010. After the World Cup in South Africa he visited a soccer academy that, for 10 years, had kept lads off township streets. God broke his heart for these hurting townships and he is devoted to changing lives and meeting needs.

Nigel's career is in the mortgage industry, with experience in international banking, retail lending and Building Society sectors. A Cornishman, he moved to Guernsey in 1983 where he met and married Jayne. James and Lydia are their adult children. He's a teacher and a preacher. His Christian faith, love of football and business experience brought the charity into being.

Mario Van Niekerk
Goal50 Programme Coordinator

After a childhood involved in gang activity, becoming a father changed his attitude to life. He became a Christian and vowed that he would rescue lads from the violence of township streets. He achieved this through the universal language of football. Since 2001 he has headed up a soccer academy. In becoming a 'father' to hundreds, he realised that other life skills were equally important.

He is programme coordinator for the charity and based in Heideveld, impacting on nearly 5,000 people each week. Mario is visionary and an encourager, bringing sports programmes and libraries back to township schools, feeding thousands weekly, opening a safe home and battling for a community day-care centre.

Ian Langlois
Goal50 Communications

Equally unafraid to roll up his sleeves in the townships as he is to press home Goal50's communications message through effective marketing channels. Ian's journey with the charity started with a brief to design a logo (but could you think of a name before you do it). Goal50 was born and this was a baby that Ian just couldn't put down.

Ian’s career includes Creative Director roles at Channel Island advertising agencies and has a collection of award-winning campaigns in his portfolio. A local guy with plenty off-island experience. He loves doing family, playing guitar watching sport, but his Christian faith is his main driver. When visiting the Cape Flats, he simply cannot put his camera down.

Jayne Pascoe

Goal50 Team, Guernsey

A nurse by profession, Jayne is a natural carer. With the exception of being a full-time mum during her children's formative years, she has worked in hospital and pre-school. Married to Nigel, she is a founder member of New Life Church where she helps with a Mother & Toddler group.

When visiting the townships she is a big devotee of the popular feeding programme, and in particular the children. Does have a legitimate interest in football and in particular in the management of Arsene Wenger.

With roots in the English West Country, Simon was born within site of the last battle on English soil at Sedgemoor. He’s an Advocate of the Royal Court in Guernsey, having studied law in Nottingham and kick-started his career at the London Bar. When he arrived on island shores, he became a Guernseyman exceedingly quickly.

He’s a bookworm and firmly believes in accurate information. He’s a multi-instrument musician - trumpet, keyboard, bass guitar and bagpipes. Not all at once. Simon has an insatiable appetite for research and facts.

Michelle Van Niekerk
Goal50 Programme Co-ordinator

A lady with a heart for others and a desire to serve. Michelle is the wife of Mario and the inspiration behind food programmes in several townships. She holds to the maxim that a child cannot learn on an empty stomach.

Her love of food preparation and cooking started back in secondary school. Michelle believes that this was God's way of honing skills that would be used in the future. She has a wonderful reputation in her community as 'provider' at any time of day or night.

Jan Louis Rath
Goal50 Trustee, Cape Town

South African born Jan Louis moved to Guernsey in 2002 to work in the island's growing finance sector. His relationship with Goal50 grew in the ensuing years. Ten years later, on his return to Paarl in the South African winelands, Jan Louis became more involved with Mario at the charity's 'coalface' and is committed to growing the work of GCU in the townships. A big Springboks rugby fan.

Qualified in law, he worked in the life assurance business. He started off as a legal adviser in the corporate world and soon moved into management.

Thean Lorens
Goal50 Funding Coordinator

A native of Cape Town, Thean loves his country and cares for its people. He longs to see his nation healed after many bruising decades. He sees his work with Goal50 as a fabulous opportunity to combine his passions with his profession in audit.

Thean has spent a significant proportion of his working life away from his homeland. In fact it was whilst in Guernsey on one of his global appointments that he discovered that Goal50 was operating within his ‘back yard’ in Cape Town. He loves the outcome.

Clara Le Vallée
Goal50 Administration

Clara visited South Africa when she was a teenager, and fell in love with both the country and its people. She is passionate about teaching the younger generation compassion and generosity towards those less fortunate.

Her involvement with Goal50 started when her eldest son, Jacques, established the charity's KitXchange initiative in June 2014. Thousands of donated sports items have sent to the townships. Clara, helped by both her sons, continues to run this important activity. She also assists with the general administration of the charity.
